A tank water heater keeps a supply of water perpetually heated so it’s always available when you want it. The volume of the tank varies from 20 to 80 gallons, and most families do good enough with a 40- or standard 50-gallon tank.
When the dishwasher, washing machine or shower is running, hot water is drained through the top of the tank and directed wherever the appliance needs it. The water heater then draws unheated water into the bottom of the tank and begins the heating process over again to replenish the supply.
Tank water heaters are usually less costly to buy and install than other types of water heaters. Although tankless water heaters almost always offer excellent energy efficiency, a tank heater can still be an efficient choice, especially if you get an ENERGY STAR®-rated model.

Tank water heaters are the most common since they provide water storage and demand fewer installation expenses than tankless water heaters. However, tankless water heaters offer on-demand hot water, are oftentimes more energy-efficient and usually last longer with adequate maintenance.

The service call charge covers the technician’s time, knowledge and travel costs associated with assessing the problem. It’s in essence a service fee for the technician’s professional inspection to identify the cause of the malfunction.
It’s similar to visiting your doctor. They must perform a thorough checkup to learn more about what’s wrong before proposing treatment. In the same way, your HVAC professional must inspect your system to decide on the needed repairs or maintenance.
