Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioner 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to come out and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the area around your system to remove branches and leaves that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and cut back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Komfort Air will change your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your scheduled A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s suggested that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard air conditioning service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your utility bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Komfort Air today to make sure your cooling equipment is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
