Common Charlotte AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems Charlotte faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some typical AC problems that you can help troubleshoot.

Your air conditioner is on but not releasing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not truly cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels examined. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air blowing from the system is really cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is often an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the large one is “sweating” or giving off condensation, feel the pipe to see if it’s cold. If it is, you are most likely good to go and don’t require more refrigerant.

If you’re not convinced or the pipe is not giving off condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Komfort Air and we’ll stop by and examine your refrigerant levels and learn why your AC is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t turning.

There are many reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One is that it just burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity typically causes more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is obstructed. If you can look for these things, you may be able to locate the problem; but, if not, give Komfort Air a call and we can determine what is preventing your condenser fan from circulating and review your options to get your A/C system problem corrected.

Your air conditioning system is not providing ample air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes we tend to miss the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your AC cooling, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause major cooling problems. Another thing that could cause your lack of cooling is an A/C system that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are constructed. Komfort Air is happy to come out and perform an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your air conditioner is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off repeatedly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of several things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and should be cleaned. Once the condenser and/or evaporator is cleaned and all clogs moved aside, you may be back to a typical running system. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work harder to keep your home cool and comfortable.

No matter your issue, whatever usual or unusual A/C problem you run into, Komfort Air is here for you around the clock. We are available all the time so we can get your A/C cooling and get your home comfortable as soon as possible.
